Shortstop Mike Furlong put up two key hits to spur the Central College baseball team to get a 2-0 win against Coe College on Saturday; but the Kohawks got even in the second game of the doubleheader with a 3-0 victory.
Furlong singled in the third inning and advanced to third on two groundouts before crossing the plate on a single from right fielder Jarred Lackey.  Furlong put up the game’s second run in the fifth inning on his first home run of the season.
The two runs were all the support that pitcher Joel Pulliam needed to improve his record to 5-2 with a complete-game victory.
Central’s Ryan Goetzinger pitched a great game in the nightcap, giving up only three hits.  Unfortunately, one of those hits was a bases-loaded, two-out double that brought in all three runs to give Coe the win.
The Central baseball team is now 17-12 overall and 7-7 in the Iowa Conference, and will complete their series with Coe with a nine-game contest today, back in Cedar Rapids.
