Dr. Russell Benedict, a biology professor at Central College says recognizing Earth Day is important as it brings attention to the enormous challenges facing our planet.
He says the global effects of climate change are his greatest concern and Earth Day is an opportunity to take a closer look at the role humans play in both the creation and solution to the challenges.
He says his interaction with college students keeps him optimistic at successfully facing those challenges.
