The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating a Knoxville house fire since it occurred in December. As a result of the investigation, based on evidence gathered at the scene and after speaking with several witnesses the Marion County Sheriff’s Office has determined that the fire at 306 South Godfrey Lane that occurred the morning of December 19th was intentionally set.
The Knoxville Township Fire Department, Clay Township Fire Department, Columbia Fire and Knoxville Fire and Rescue along with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Knoxville Police Department responded to the fire shortly before 6am on Sunday December 19th. Initial reports stated that there was at least one explosion, with second possible, prior to firefighters arriving on scene. Due to suspicious the circumstances, Knoxville Rural Fire Chief Kenny Thompson requested the Sheriff’s Office investigate the fire.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, all leads have been exhausted at this time and the case will remain open should further evidence arise.
