Monmouth College swept the doubles competition and retained command throughout for a 6-3 victory over the Central College men’s tennis team Saturday.
But the Dutch (6-13 overall, 5-12 spring) rebounded with a 5-4 victory over a Coe College squad that included several junior varsity players.
Dan Bowser won twice at No. 1 singles for Central. He also teamed with Seth Harris for a victory at No. 1 doubles against Coe.
Central’s only wins against Monmouth came at the top of the singles lineup as Bowser, Harris and Bryn Boswell were winners on Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively.
Five of the six singles matches against Coe went to tiebreakers. Bowser, No. 5 Jacob Dreyer and No. 6 Zane Hendricks won in singles. Joining Harris-Bowser as a doubles winner was Kyle Freischlag and Hendricks at No. 3.
Central closes out its home schedule next Saturday, meeting Loras at 9 a.m. and Dubuque at 1 p.m. at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex courts. Last spring Central defeated Loras 7-2 but was stopped by Dubuque 6-3. Loras is 1-9 this year while Dubuque is 6-9.
