Several Knoxville middle school students were recognized for their outstanding poetry and art work during an awards ceremony Wednesday afternoon. The annual contest is administered by River of Words, an environmental art and poetry program created to promote watershed awareness, literacy and the arts. The students visited a local watershed and then wrote about their observations or created an art piece using painting, drawing or photography. First, second and third place winners were honored along with three honorable mentions.
