A Knoxville man faces 14 different charges after being involved in a police chase and accident over the weekend. According to a report by the Iowa State Patrol, 44 year-old Shawn Rory O’Brien was driving a 1995 Ford Probe and traveling south on 130th Place while trying to elude Knoxville Police officers when he failed to negotiate a corner, entered a residential yard, and struck a tree. O’Brien then fled the scene and was later found approximately one half mile south east of the scene. He refused to take a drug test and was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries before being transported to the Marion County jail for operating while intoxicated, failure to maintain control, leaving the scene of an accident, driving while barred, eluding police, reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of excessive speed, two counts of failure to obey stop sign, improper rear lamps, improper use of registration, and operating without registration. O’Brien was released Sunday on a $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for April 12th at 1:30pm.
