The Knoxville Parent Teacher Organization is hosting a fundraiser this spring to provide a positive learning experience for our children. PTO President Dave Garcia says this fundraiser is different than most in that it focuses on an educational opportunity rather than selling items.
Elementary students are collecting pledges for this year’s Spell-a-thon either on a per word basis or at a flat donation. The students will then take a spelling test this Friday and collect the pledges based on the number of words they are able to spell correctly. Garcia says spelling is a fundamental skill that all elementary students need to learn.
Money raised from the event will go to pay for field trips, school activities and playground equipment. Anyone who would like to donate or learn more about the Spell-a-thon can call either Northstar or West Elementary.
