All public schools in Iowa must approve their certified budget by April 15th, a measure that is more difficult this year than most considering the Iowa legislature has not yet made a decision on allowable growth. The Knoxville School Board passed their maximum expenditure budget at Monday’s meeting. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack says they have to do this to plan for the worst.

Dr. Flack says he doesn’t anticipate allowable growth to go higher than the 0% that was approved in last year’s session. However, he says there is still hope that property tax payers will get some relief. If the legislature approves maintaining the property tax equity and reduction that was approved a few years ago.

The Knoxville School District, and all public schools in the state will continue to wait and see what decisions our state lawmakers make.
