It was a mixed bag with our local athletes day one of the high school portion of the 102nd Running of the Drake Relays yesterday. Knoxville Derek Seddon finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 165 feet five inches which was a new school record. The Knoxville 1600 medley relay came in sixth, and Knoxville’s Alex Edwards was 14th in the 800. More relay events happened last night as three girls 4×100 teams were on the Blue Oval. Pella Christian timed in at 52.14 seconds good enough for seventh in the Eagles heat. Pella finished third in its heat in a time of 52.24 and P-C-M was fourth in its heat with a time of 52.70. Neither of the 4×100 girls teams were able to qualify for the finals. The boys 4×100 teams took to the track next and Knoxville was able to time in second in its heat with a time of 44.83 seconds, Pella Christian was a tick faster in its heat while finishing third at 44.58 seconds…and Pella was listed as a did not finish. None of the boys teams were able to make it into the finals. The final local racers of the night was the Pella girls four-by-400 meter relay team and they were eighth in their heat in a time of four minutes six-point-zero/one seconds which was not good enough for the finals. Today is the final day of the Drake Relays and the boy four-by-800 meter relay teams race at 11:06 this morning with Knoxville and Pella taking times.
