The Newton girls soccer team ran away with an 8-2 win over Pella Christian Monday night. The Cardinals soared to a 4-1 halftime lead then matched that score in the second half. Christina Nolte scored both Eagle goals. Both of her goals were on penalty kicks. Newton had 24 shots compared to Pella Christian’s 5 shots.
Eagle goalkeeper Abbey DeBruin tallied 12 saves. Shelby Sytsma led the Eagle defense with 25 defensive stops.
“Newton is a very talented soccer team,” observed Eagle Coach Bill Collman. “I expect to see Newton and Pella vying for the conference championship.”
The Eagles are now 2-6. They travel to Centerville on Monday and they will host Oskaloosa on Tuesday.
