Heavy spring rains and more snow to the north have increased concerns for flooding along the Mississippi River and Lake Red Rock is playing a part in trying to combat those flood waters.
John Holt of the US Army Corp of Engineers tells KNIA/KRLS News that outflow at the lake has been cut by 75% to 5,000 cubic feet of water per second.
Holt says that in addition to offering flood control for 140 miles along the Des Moines River, the Lake also helps control flooding for a 60 mile stretch along the Mississippi.
