Approximately a dozen Pella High seniors were part of a service day effort to clean up the historic Karr cemetery north of Lake Red Rock on Wednesday. The effort was led by Val Van Kooten , professor at Central College, and Pella High School social studies teacher Jerod Garland. Garland says that the service day effort brought a different perspective of history to the students than can be found in textbooks. The earliest graves at the cemetery date to the mid-1800’s.
