Two State Senators spoke in Pella Friday morning. Senator Tom Reilly, Democrat from Oskaloosa and Senator Steve Sodders, Democrat from State Center spoke with about a dozen people at Smokey Row this morning. The two Senators discussed a plan currently working its way through the state house that would cut up to $200 million commercial property taxes. Sodders says the plan is aimed at small and medium sized businesses, those with fewer than 250 employees. The plan would begin with $50 million coming from an expected surplus this year from the state’s general fund, and would continue each year the general fund grows by at least 4%, up to a total of $200 million.
