The once-per-decade shift of congressional districts is now underway. State Representative Jim Van Engelenhoven says the preliminary drawings were a bit surprising. Under the first proposal, District 71 which includes Pella, Knoxville and most of Marion County and is represented by Van Engelenhoven would be separated in such a way that Pella would be grouped with parts of Mahaska and Jasper counties, while the rest of Marion county would stay together. Van Engelenhoven says it’s still too early to say what changes the plans will bring, as the redistricting process has several more steps to go through before adoption.
