Earlier this week US Agriculture Secretary and former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack visited with farmers and other agriculture professionals in the area.

Randy Van Kooten, President of the Iowa Soybean Association from Lynnville was on hand for the Secretary’s visit.

He says he felt that Vilsack understood the challenges facing local farmers, but says he let them know that federal support for ag producers is facing criticism in Washington.

Van Kooten says those federal programs are necessary to provide stability to various commodities markets vital to Iowa’s economy, like soybeans.
