A member of the National Guard from Pleasantville is currently helping with recovery efforts in Joplin, Missouri. Lance Golay, an E-4 specialist military policeman with the Guard tells KNIA/KRLS news that he was in route from training in Arkansas back to Pleasantville after the tornado hit Joplin, and stopped by to see if help was needed. He is currently working as a volunteer providing security and helping coordinate search and rescue efforts in Joplin. He is working with the Fire Chief in Joplin and could use some help. He needs a few trained people to assist with a search and rescue team he has formed. They need to be fit, with hard hats, safety glasses, work gloves, and good boots to go into the rubble. People with medical training are preferred. Golay says authorities are requesting that people without training, even those with the best of intentions, do not come to help, and that unsolicited donations hinder rescue efforts. Anyone interested in helping with these recovery efforts should call Golay at 641-891-9419.
