It was a productive first day of competition at the State Track and Field meet for Marion County athletes. While no state champions from Marion County were crowned, several events and individuals have given themselves an opportunity to attain gold. The Pella girls Shuttle Hurdle Relay team won their heat thereby qualifying them for the finals tomorrow. Also qualifying were P-C-M’s shuttle hurdle squad in class 2A, as well as Pella’s Chris Brogden in the 100. In many of the timed finals, Knoxville’s Timothy Shepherd was sixth in the 3200 in class 3A while P-C-M’s Jake Potter was also six in the 2A 3200. The highlight of the day in the field events was Knoxville’s Derek Seddon placing third in the discus and setting another school record with a throw of 166 feet eight inches.
