The doubles team of Will Loux and Brennan Johnson earned themselves a trip to the individual portion Class 1-A Boys State Tennis Tournament – with the rest of the team hoping to join them – after a third-place finish in Thursday’s District meet at Pella High.
The Little Dutch finished in third place in the team standings with 13 points, followed by Pella Christian at 11 and Knoxville in sixth place with four points. Grinnell scored 26 points to take the team title and earn a pass to the substate round, while Centerville’s runner-up performance will match them up with Pella in the preliminary substate round in Pella on Saturday.
Loux and Johnson finished second in doubles, while the tandem of Brady Van Kooten and Nicholas from Pella Christian took third place. Knoxville’s best finsher was Eric Jones, who took fourth place in singles.
