The Pella City Council has begun working on a plan for use of local option sales and service tax funds. Pella Mayor Darrell Dobernecker says these funds are important, as they contribute to the improvement of the city, without increasing other local taxes. Initial estimates show the tax will generate approximately $14.5 million dollars in the next 12 years, or about $1.2 million per year. Twenty percent of that will go toward property tax relief, with the remaining 80% going to fund street projects, electrical system improvements, indoor pool repairs and other projects.
