Pella golfer Lucas Boyd is right in the hunt for an individual title in the Class 3-A Boys State Golf Tournament, following a strong opening round at the Ames Golf and Country Club. Boyd shot a one-over par 73 through his first holes, trailing only leader Nick Nelson of Decorah by just two strokes.
Nelson’s performance has helped his team hold on to second place in the team standings with a 315, while Washington holds the top spot in the team standings with a 312. Another familiar name in the Little Hawkeye Conference, Mitch Tucker of Oskaloosa is close behind Boyd with a 75; good enough for fifth place.
Pella’s Lucas Boyd will continue play in the second – and final – round of the Class 3-A Boys State Golf Tournament today in Ames.
