Former Knoxville City Manager Dick Schrad will be recognized for his service to the community in support of emergency and rescue services. Knoxville Fire Chief Mike Roberts tells KNIA/KRLS News that Mercy Hospital recognizes one individual in it’s service area each year for their contributions. Roberts says that under Schrad’s leadership, and with support of city councils and mayors, the Knoxville EMT program has expanded, and a Mercy helicopter has been permanently stationed at the Knoxville airport. A public ceremony involving Mercy and area first responders will be held Thursday afternoon at 5PM at the Knoxville airport.
