The Central College softball team made quick work of Grinnell College yesterday afternoon, sweeping the regular season finale 10-1 and 12-0.  Both games went just five innings.
The Dutch took a while to get going in the opener, entering the fourth inning tied 1-1 before exploding for seven runs, then adding two more in the fifth on a two run blast by shortstop Annie Sarcone for her sixth homer of the season.  Pitcher Brie Haycraft improved her record to 8-1 in pitching all five innings for the win.
In the nightcap, the Dutch used a record 26 players in the game to cruise to a 12-0 win, led by a no-hitter from pitcher Rhianna Fleetwood, who walked just one batter and struck out four to improve to 10-0 this season.  Senior left fielder Beth Grove also slammed a three-run home run in the third inning in just her third at-bat of the season.  First baseman Katie Tenboer also went yard, belting her sixth round-tripper of the season and tying Annie Sarcone for the team lead.
The Central softball team finishes the regular season 35-5 and enters today’s six-team Iowa Conference tournament in Decorah as the No. 2 seed.  The Dutch get a first round bye and will play either Coe or Cornell at approximately 4:00 p.m. this afternoon.  Trevor Castle will be providing the play-by-play for the game, which can be streamed online at kniakrls.com
