The Pella Christian and PCM boys golf teams each shot a 158 on Tuesday at the North Mahaska Invitational, but a fifth score tie-breaker gave the Eagles the edge to claim third place in the eight-team tournament.
The round of 158 was the lowest score the Pella Christian boys had carded in nine holes this season. That put them just one stroke behind host North Mahaska, and only three strokes back of meet-winner Colfax-Mingo.
Drew Stravers and Brennan Veenstra each shot a 38 at the Prairie Knolls Country Club in New Sharon to lead the way for Pella Christian, while Hunter Van Veen’s 37 was the low round for PCM.
The two teams will see each other again soon, as they have been paired in the same grouping for the Class 2-A Boys Sectional meet in Altoona.
