Though they were able to perform well at the plate, the Pella baseball team found itself short in the runs column on Thursday night, as a seventh-inning rallied fizzled out in a 6-5 loss to Chariton.
The Little Dutch actually out-hit the Chargers 10-to-7, led by Ryan Lanke, Chris Bandstra and Trevor Wood – who each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Both of Lanke’s hits were doubles, and he scored two of Pella’s five runs, while Bandstra tallied an RBI.
Lanke also pitched two solid innings in relief of starter Paul Anderson, striking out two Charger batters and allowing only one hit and no runs scored.
The loss drops the Little Dutch to 0-3 on the season, but they’ll have a pair of opportunities to pick up a win this evening, when Newton comes to Pella for a varsity doubleheader.
