8 athletes recently represented Marion County in the 2011 Iowa Special Olympic Summer Games. Jacob Hindman of Knoxville and Ben Heywood and Joe Morgan of Pleasantville teamed up to win the Gold Medal in the bocce ball ramp division. Haley Stevens of Monroe and Melissa Schletzbaum and Michelle Turnage of Pleasantville won the silver in Division 2 bocce ball. Hindman also won a gold in the 25 yard freestyle and silver in the 25 yard backstroke. Turnage received a bronze medal in the 50 yard dash. Andrew McMullin of Bussey won a gold and silver medal in two different 30 meter wheelchair races, while Tegan Ripperger of Pleasantville finished with the silver in the 50 yard walk. The Special Olympic Summer Games took place at Iowa State University.
