Hitting Display Propels Pella Softball to Victory

Taylor Veenstra blasted a home run, and her teammates combined for 11 more hits as the Pella softball team picked up a 7-4 victory over Newton on Friday night.  While the Lady Dutch offense was hitting on all cylinders offensively, their defense was putting on an impressive display behind winning pitcher Mandy DeMeulenaere.

DeMeulenaere spread around eight Newton hits and gave up just two walks while tallying two strikeouts.  The hits could have easily reached double figures, but three times Pella’s outfielders kept the Cardinals from getting on base by making diving catches.

Along with Veenstra’s round tripper, DeMeulenaere helped her cause by racking up three hits, and Lisa Houser added another two hits and a pair of runs for the Lady Dutch.

The win improves the Pella softball team to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
