A pair of Marion County residents have participated in a research project with Practical Farmers of Iowa about the economic feasibility of high tunnels. Jill Beebout and Sean Skeehan of Blue Gate Farms tell KNIS/KRLS News that they recently built two high tunnels on their farm in Southern Marion County. The tunnels extended the growing season for their fruits and vegetables and created a controlled environment during the spring. They said that the high tunnels became profitable after just two years. Blue Gate Farms is a Community Supported Agriculture.
