A pair of close ball games resulted in one win apiece for the Pella Christian and Grinnell baseball teams on Friday night, as the Eagles hosted the Tigers in the Little Hawkeye Conference varsity doubleheader.
Game one went to Grinnell 9-7, with pitcher Will Vande Voort taking the loss for the Eagles. Pella Christian had no shortage of offense, though, as Curtis Rozenboom went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double, Marcus Van Zee had two doubles in a 2-for-3 performance at the dish, and Zach Zylstra batted 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Pella Christian injected a little drama into the nightcap, ultimately earning a 5-4 victory on a walk-off hit. Jordan Rossler batted 2-for-3, and Zach Zylstra and Curtis Rozenboom both went 1-for-3 at the dish, with all three players tallying an RBI and a run scored.
On the mound, Zylsra was on his “A” game, weathering ten Grinnell hits but striking out seven Tiger batters and walking only two to pick up the complete-game win.
The Pella Christian baseball team carries a 5-2 overall record back out onto the diamond today at Eddyville-Blakesburg.
