It seemed as though the Pella Christian baseball team could hit nothing but doubles on Wednesday night, as the Eagles swept Newton 10-3 and 8-7 in Pella.
Kyle DeRonde set the tone for Pella Christian at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and a pair of doubles.  Curtis Rozenboom, Marcus Van Zee and Will Vande Voort all hit doubles in the opener as well with two hits apiece.
DeRonde threw a complete game on the mound, allowing 8 hits while striking out five Newton batters and yielding just one walk.
The trend of doubles continued in the nightcap, as Tom Bouwkamp went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and scored two runs, while Zach Zylstra had three RBIs and a double of his own in a 2-for-3 performance.  Zylstra was the starting pitcher in the 8-7 victory, striking out five and walking one; but it was Bouwkamp who would earn the win in 2/3 of an inning of work.
The Pella Christian baseball team is now 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the Little Hawkeye Conference and will play at Oskaloosa on Friday.
