The Pella Christian softball and baseball teams return to Little Hawkeye Conference play this evening with home games against Grinnell. The Eagles baseball team will get started a couple hours earlier than their female counterparts, as their varsity doubleheader with the Tigers gets started at 5:30 p.m.
Pella Christian baseball coach Brad Rolffs says after a tough loss to Knoxville on Wednesday, it will be important for his team to show that they can come back focused and take on another strong team in the conference. The Eagles are 4-1 overall.
Over on the softball field, the Lady Eagles are hoping to normalize what has been a bit of a roller coaster ride thus far in the season. The Pella Christian softball team is 2-2 and Head Coach Nate Van Wyk says their mark directly correlates with how the team has performed so far.
“That record is pretty much indicative of the way we’ve played. We’ve played two really good games, and we’ve played two not-so-good games,” said Van Wyk. “In the two wins that we had, our pitching has been fantastic, our fielding has been good and we’ve hit the ball well. In the two losses, one of those three areas – whether it be pitching, defense or hitting – has really struggled, and it’s kind of been the tale of two halves so far this year.”
The Lady Eagles will make a push to get above .500 this evening when their contest begins at approximately 7:30 p.m. Both the baseball and softball games are being held at the Pella Christian High School Athletic Complex.
