Pella’s nickel-and-dime hitting, along with pitcher Mandy DeMeulenaere’s efficiency in the circle helped the Lady Dutch to a 6-1 win over Knoxville in softball on Wednesday night
The Panthers actually got the scoring started when Gretchen Hileman ripped a triple then scored on a throwing error to make it 1-0 Knoxville. From there, DeMeulenaere only allowed three hits the rest of the way. Knoxville was unable to get any kind of consistency at the plate and went down in order in the fifth and seventh innings.
Pella got nine hits – all on singles – led by Lisa Houser’s 2-for-4 performance and two runs scored. DeMeulenaere got the win going the distance allowing one run, scattering five hits, no walks and three strikeouts.
Jessica Stickel took the loss also going the distance allowing six runs on nine hits, three walks and four punch outs.
Pella is now 9-4 on the season and 6-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference and will travel to Grinnell tonight in a makeup game before playing Norwalk on Friday.
Knoxville is now 5-11 on the season and 2-4 in the conference with a road game with Pella Christian on Friday night.
