The recent heavy rain is causing lots of flooding and washout problems on rural roads. The Marion County Engineer’s Office has closed at least 34 roads as a result. As of 10 am, English Creek was over three feet past its banks; Cedar Creek was almost five feet above flood stage; and the South Skunk River was almost a foot over flood stage.
The recent rain also helped establish a new record for rainfall-to-date in the month of June. So far, the city of Knoxville has received 9.19 inches of rain in the first 15 days of the month – more than any previous year for the first fifteen days of June. KNIA/KRLS is the official recording station for the National Weather Service.
