The Iowa Department of Public Health is reminding people that tick season has begun. Officials say the best way to avoid ticks is wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants while in grassy or wooded areas and to stay on trails. If you do have a tick on you, they say to remove it immediately with a tweezers and clean and disinfect the bite. If you develop a rash that looks like a bullseye after a tick bite, you may have lyme disease. The Department of Public Health says if this occurs, you should contact a doctor immediately.
