The percentage of people living outside of incorporated cities in Marion County has increased, according to a report by the Community Vitality Center. Over 35 percent of people live outside of incorporated towns, up from 33 percent in 2000 and 29 percent in 1990. This is contrary to the pattern that a majority of counties in Iowa have seen, where a higher percentage of people are moving into the cities and towns that are incorporated. Overall, both segments of the population have seen a net increase overall. Marion County’s overall population is now 33,309, an increase of almost four percent from 2000. The Community Vitality Center is located at Iowa State University.
