Ag In The City In Pella Today

Ag in the City is in Pella today. Portions of Main and Franklin streets near the square will be closed in the afternoon to make way for the equipment displays.
“Kids love climbing on some of the equipment they maybe don’t see on a regular basis”, said Mary Van Zante, President of the Marion County Farm Bureau. “And I think even people who come from a farm background may be surprised at the size of the equipment and the cost of some of the equipment that’s involved in today’s farming operations.”
Entertainment begins at 6:30 at the Tulip Toren for a goat milking contest pitting Future Farmers of America advisers from Pella and Twin Cedars. “We did this last year and it went over well. We also did it at the Knoxville Ag in the City event, so it’s kind of a county wide event,” she said of the goat milking contest.
“I’ve got a great Board of Directors, and leading this charge are, really, Larry Rawley and Leora Bandstra”, Van Zante said of her colleagues who have helped organize the event.
Following that event, musical entertainment from the Heartland Boot Scooters and Danny Grause will follow. Pony rides, inflatables and other entertainment will be available for the kids and the Marion County Cattlemen will be on hand to feed the crowd.
