It doesn’t have to come pretty to be a win; and the Pella baseball team proved just that with an 8-5 win in eight innings at Fairfield Wednesday night. Just when it seemed the momentum was swinging in the favor of the Trojans, Trevor Wood sparked a two-out, three-run rally to give the Little Dutch the margin needed to claim the victory.

Wood’s go-ahead run came courtesy of a hit by Paul Anderson and was part of a 2-for-5 night at the plate that also included a double.

Starting pitcher Chris Bandstra, meanwhile, was all over Fairfield’s pitching; going 3-for-5 with a two-run homerun and a double as part of a three RBI performance. Schyler Kane earned the win, coming in to relieve Bandstra and striking out five batters while allowing just one run in the game’s final five innings.

The Pella baseball team is now 17-14 overall and stays at 12-8 in the Little Hawkeye Conference entering games next week against Grinnell and Centerville on Monday and Tuesday.
