The Knoxville Little League nine and ten year old softball squad started the State Tournament on a winning note last night by defeating Boone 6-5. Jada Agan got the win going five innings while Alex Griggs came in to pitch the sixth inning in relief. Griggs also helped out at the plate by ripping an R-B-I triple in the fourth inning and getting the winning R-B-I in the bottom of the sixth inning. The girls will now play Central Iowa in Cambridge tonight. In related sports, the Knoxville 11 and 12 years baseball All-Stars have clinched a spot at state. They will begin their state tournament next Saturday in Des Moines.
