A month-and-a-half since opening the 2011 season against each other, the Pella Christian and Pleasantville baseball teams will meet again; this time for the opening round of the Class 2A District Tournament.

The Eagles claimed a 2-1 victory in that first meeting, but a lot of baseball has passed since then, and Pella Christian Head Coach Brad Rolffs says while he likes the confidence his team is showing, he knows the Trojans will give his team a hard fight.

“I expect that they’re going to come out and be solid. Pleasantville’s not going to roll over and give us anything,” said Rolffs. “They’re [Pleasantville] going to play good defense, they’re going to hit the ball well, and they’re going to bring a good, left-handed ace pitcher to the mound.”

“We’re going to have to come out and be ready to play today. The guys are really confident going into this game. I think they’re feeling confident in their abilities, and I think that’s really going to help the, [because] confidence is everything in baseball.”

Both Pella Christian and Pleasantville played three games this week, and each team won their first two games. The Eagles are 22-13 overall entering the tournament, while the Trojans carry a 13-17 overall mark.

Pella Christian is hosting the Class 2A District Tournament opener, which will be preceded by PCM’s match-up with Albia. Opening pitch between Pella Christian and Pleasantville is scheduled for approximately 7:00 p.m.

You can hear the game live on kniakrls.com with David Hecht providing the play-by-play. The game will also be featured in a delayed broadcast on 92.1 fm KRLS following the Pella/Grinnell softball game.
