The Knoxville City Council has given the cemetery committee and city staff direction to start taking bids on a columbarium in Graceland Cemetery. A columbarium is place for the respectful storage of cremated remains. Harold Stewart, city manager of Knoxville, says that though it may not be profitable for the city for a while, the council is indicating that it would be a nice service to provide for the community. The council has previously questioned whether it would be used enough to make construction worthwhile.
