After a very wet June, the rest of the summer has been very dry, and area crops are suffering as a result. Marion County Extension Program Coordinator Dale Miller says that about 15% of corn and soybeans in the county are in poor condition. Miller says the dry conditions are also affecting pasture and hay ground, commenting that 3rd crop hay was pretty light. Ideally, he says, we would receive an inch of rain a week. Miller adds that right now, we probably will finish with a yield similar to last year’s.
