Before long, hunters will be up early and out around area lakes and ponds searching for waterfowl.

Rich Paris, a Park Ranger with the Marion County Conservation Board, says this year may be a bit of a challenge for hunters, as high water levels, especially around Red Rock, earlier in the year have given birds fewer places to camp out on their trek south.

He says seasons for waterfowl will be determined in the next few weeks, after surveys have been taken and various wildlife agencies in the region have determined where birds are likely to go, and in what numbers.
