Missouri River Energy Services says the total economic effect of their hydro electric facility at Lake Red Rock will be about a quarter of a billion dollars over the three years of construction.

Missouri River spokesman Bill Radio says those dollars will come into the region largely in the form of new jobs.

“We have taken a look at what the economic impact will be in the area during the three years of construction. The estimate is an infusion of $250 million to the communities of the region during construction.”

He says there will be an average of more than 400 workers on staff between when construction begins in 2013 and when the plant goes online in 2016.

He expects a peak of more than 700 workers in 2014.

“The good news is, the money will be there over that three years, but the bad news is it won’t be continuing at that level beyond that,” Radio says.

After the plant opens, just a few employees will remain to oversee the facility.
