Pella High School enters the fall sports season with high expectations, after having state qualifiers from each program in 2010. This season will be a little different, though, as new Athletic Director Dale Otte is overseeing the Little Dutch. Otte says the athletic success of Pella High in the past years was a big part of him choosing to apply for the position.

“That was obviously one of the key factors that I looked at when the position became available. I knew the tradition and the strong programs that they had here at Pella,” said Otte.

“It’s a little of both, though, in that it’s exciting to be a part of a successful program, but it adds that extra pressure, if you will, to make sure that we maintain that tradition; that we continue to work with our coaches, work with our kids, and continue to move everything forward.”

Prior to accepting the Athletic Director position at Pella High, Otte had held the same position at Saydel High School in Des Moines. He replaces Bill VanHorn, who had served as Pella’s A.D. for the past 14 years.
