A new way to reach emergency services is in the works. Next Generation 911 will allow citizens to text and send photos to 911 services. Marion County Emergency 911 Coordinator John McCoy says that this will make emergency services digital rather on a hard line. The new system will allow emergency management to do something such as text all the phones in the area of an accident, telling them avoid a certain road. He says it also will be a big help to hearing impaired. McCoy adds there are concerns, such as data overload and costs to implement. The timeline for implementing next gen 911 is not known.
