The 2011 volleyball season is just around the corner, and at Pella High School, the Lady Dutch are hard at work, preparing for what they hope will be another successful season.

Despite graduating ten seniors from last year’s squad, head coach Bob Fessler says this year’s crop of athletes has not set their expectations any lower, something he says has him looking forward to the upcoming season.

“The next class never wants to be the one that lets that [winning tradition] down, and from a coaching standpoint, that’s great. They understand, they see, they know [what to do],” says Fessler.

“As coaches, we understand that it’s pretty hard to maintain that, but it’s easier [because] you have their attention, you have their focus, and they’re determined to be their best. It makes it pretty fun to coach.”

The Pella volleyball team compiled a 38-6 record last season, qualifying for the State Volleyball Tournament for the fifth consecutive season. The Lady Dutch will open varsity competition on August 25th at Ballard High School.
