Pella High’s volleyball season got off to a bit of a rocky start on Thursday night with an up-and-down loss at Ballard. The Lady Dutch fell 3-2 in five games with their wins coming in the second and fourth sets. The Bombers claimed the deciding game by a narrow 15-13 margin.

Pella head coach Bob Fessler says the team was plagued by inconsistent play, something he’s been trying to address early in the season. The Lady Dutch got 10 kills from Shannon Ewing, 22 assists from Morgan Ernst, and Regan Nelson served up four aces. Defensively, Katie Sunderman and Taelor Rempe each recorded 19 digs.

Up next for Pella is a quad on Tuesday with Dallas Center-Grimes, Bondurant-Farrar and Gilbert that will be hosted by the Lady Dutch at Pella Christian High School.
