Quality Athletes, Work Ethic Will Lead Little Dutch to Week Two Improvements, says Football Coach

Though a 41-14 loss to Newton was certainly not the start to the season that the Pella High football team was hoping for, the Little Dutch have returned to practice this week refocused and intent upon proving that they are a better team than one game would indicate. Pella head football coach Jay McKinstrey says overall improvement seems like an obvious goal after a loss, but it would have been just as important following a win.
“We know we’re going to get better. That’s the most important thing, is improving, if that’s what we want to do throughout the season,” said McKinstrey. “We could have won 40-0 and still needed to improve from game one to game two. That’s the key. And if we keep doing that – we’ve got great kids and some good athletes out there – we’re going to get better, and I know some good things will happen to these kids if they can hang in there and respond in a great way.”
The upcoming opponent for the Little Dutch had a very similar result in their season-opener, as Knoxville was defeated 40-14 last Friday by PCM. The two will meet on Friday night inside Ken Locke Stadium in Knoxville.
