Knoxville Zoning Administrator Cindy Glick says that the zoning committee has been very busy this summer. The city has been using a neighborhood stabilization grant they received from the Iowa Department of Economic Development in 2010 to purchase and tear down property that was considered disheveled. 22 properties were purchased, and 21 have been torn down. One property that was rehabbed was sold to Habitat for Humanity, along with eight vacant properties. Glick adds that the city owns the old Goff and Nash lot downtown, and they may turn that into a parking lot.
