Central Football Faces Tough Test Today in Dubuque

Posted By Sports On September 24, 2011 @ 5:58 am In Today’s Local Sports | Comments Disabled

Assigned with the task of slowing down a high-powered University of Dubuque offense, the Central College team figures to have its hands full this afternoon when they hit the road to face the Spartans.
Dubuque has the complete package on offense, as junior quarterback Wyatt Hanus is the league’s leading passer, averaging just over 258 yards per game. His favorite target, All-American senior wide receiver Michael Zweifel is back for a fifth season and leads the conference in receptions at just over ten per game while averaging 160 yards receiving per contest. The Spartans also boast a solid running back in Justin Spaulding.

Of course, Central is certainly not without its own weapons on offense, as dual-threat quarterback is averaging over 100 yards rushing per game and a league-best 296 yards of total offense.

The game will likely be decided by defense, where the two teams stack up one-two in the Iowa Conference in a number of categories. The Spartans are 3-0 overall, while Central is 2-1 overall and 1-0 in league play, following a 37-9 win last week over Luther College.

You can hear coverage of today’s game, live from Chalmers Field in Dubuque, with Trevor Castle providing the play-by-play on 92.1 fm KRLS and streamed live at kniakrls.com [1]. Coverage starts at 12:45 p.m., with kickoff between Central and Dubuque set for 1:00.
