Central weekend recap:
The Central College volleyball team won half of their games this past weekend at Wisconsin-Platteville Volleyball Tournament.   On Friday, the Dutch Lost 3-0 to Milikin University, but bounced back with a win over Monmouth College 3-1.  Central kept rolling on Saturday, blanking Edgewood College 3-0, before 3-1 loss to No. 19 University of Wisconsin-Platteville.   Friday’s win gave head coach Kent Clayberg his 200th career victory.  The Central volleyball team is 7-2 overall and will return to Iowa Conference action tomorrow night, when they face a Luther squad that swept the Dutch last season.

Central women’s tennis got on the right track on Saturday, following 8-1 and 6-3 victories over Loras and Dubuque, respectively. The Dutch are now 2-3 overall and 2-2 in Iowa Conference play.  They are back in action tomorrow afternoon at Grinnell.

Central’s women’s golf team slipped some on Sunday in the two-day Wartburg Invitational, finishing 8th in the 20-team tourney. Sarah Paulson led the way with a two-round score of 157 – tying for 11th place. Knoxville native Kaurie Kincaid shot a 172 and Pella High graduate Kelsey Van Tasell carded a 199.  Central gets another shot at a powerful field next Saturday and Sunday at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill. Central was 16th in a 20-team field there last year.

The Central men’s soccer team split their games this weekend, defeating Milikin University 1-0 on Saturday, then falling 3-2 to Illinois Wesleyan on Sunday. Dutch are now 3-2 overall.  They’ll wrap up a three-game road series Wednesday, taking on Monmouth College (1-2) at 5 p.m. at Monmouth. The Dutch lead the all-time series 7-5-1 and shut out the Fighting Scots 3-0 last season.

It was a record-breaking weekend for the Central College women’s soccer team.   After suffering a 3-2 setback to Milikin on Saturday, the Dutch ripped Eureka College 11-0 yesterday; scoring more goals than they had in the entire 2010 season. They tied the single-game scoring record set against Upper Iowa in 1998, and also tied a school record for shots on goal with 55. Central women’s soccer is now 4-1.  They will also face Monmouth College on the road on Wednesday.   The Scots are 1-4-1 after being shut out by Webster Sunday, 1-0. But Monmouth blanked Central at Pella last year, 1-0, and holds a 3-2 edge over the Dutch in the all-time series.
